Help our Hungry Neighbors by Hosting an Event

The Foodbank depends on fundraisers throughout the year to help feed our hungry neighbors in need. This is a great way to help fill the shelves with nutritious food items for a healthy life. Your efforts to coordinate a fundraising event make an enormous difference in the amount of food that we are able to distribute in our community to help feed hungry families. A lot of people would prefer to make a monetary donation instead of food. This is a great way for your donations to go further because we are able to convert $1 to nearly $8 worth of nutritious food.

How do I get barrels/boxes/posters?

Food drive boxes are available in the following sizes:

  • 19.5 x 10 x 13
  • 18-5/8 x 18-5/8 x 24-7/8

11” x 17” posters can be picked up at The Foodbank and AAAA Storage.

Money containers can be picked up at the Foodbank.

How do I get scheduled for a delivery and/or pickup?

If you need delivery of supplies, please note on your registration form . Depending on the amount of supplies you need, we can have the items delivered or you can pick these items up at the Foodbank or at the AAAA Storage Facility at 217 Harpersville Road.

If you have a food donation less than 300 lbs. you may deliver the food to the Foodbank between 8am and 4pm or to any D.A.V. store, Pearson Toyota, Old Point National Bank, Virginia Company Bank, Fulton Bank in our service area, or Douglas Aquatics in Yorktown.

Any donations above 300 pounds would need to come directly to the Foodbank.

We encourage food deliveries to minimize our cost and increase the value of the donation. However, if you have a large food donation of 300 lbs. or more, you can arrange to have the Foodbank pick up your donation by calling 757.596.7188 x 101. Please allow for three business days. Deliveries and pickups occur between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 pm. Monday through Friday.

Can I drop off food at the Foodbank?

Yes. The Foodbank can maximize our feeding programs from the donations being delivered to the Foodbank Monday-Friday between 8am and 4pm.
Monetary donations should be delivered or mailed to the Foodbank. You can also call the Foodbank and a staff member will be happy to come by and pick up the monetary donation. 757.596.7188 x 101.

What food items are families in most need of?

To make sure we provide the most nutritious food items to families in need, we are following the www.choosemyplate.gov guidelines. Those items are:

  • Canned tuna, chicken or ham
  • Canned vegetables
  • Pasta meals and sauces
  • Canned Fruit or Fruit Cups
  • Hearty meaty soups 
  • Whole Wheat Crackers
  • Cereal, Breakfast Bars, Oatmeal
  • Rice Boxes, Whole Wheat Pasta
  • 100% Fruit Juices
  • Peanut Butter and Jelly

Supersize your donation:  For every dollar, the Foodbank can provide four meals. The Foodbank can stretch their resources and purchase truckloads of non-perishable canned nutritious food products with the monetary donations.

Where do my donations go?

96.56% of the expenses are devoted to feeding programs which go directly to help provide food assistance to our neighbors in need.

Can I donate by cash, check or on-line?

Yes, the Foodbank accepts cash, checks and on-line donations.  Cash should not be mailed but brought directly to the Foodbank.  Checks can be made out to the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank and mailed or delivered to 2401 Aluminum Avenue, Hampton, VA  23661.  The Foodbank accepts on-line donations on a secure site by visiting www.hrfoodbank.org.

Can I have a personalized page for my event on the Foodbank’s website to accept donations?

Yes. To setup an on-line donation form specific for your event, please email Donna at dtighe@hrfoodbank.org  or call 757.596.7188.  We can personalize a page on our website for you to use to meet your events fundraising goals.

Is a Tax Donation Receipt provided?

Yes. When you deliver the food and/or monetary donations, a receipt will be provided. In addition, a letter for tax reporting will be sent to all donors who made a monetary donation in the calendar year.

Can I schedule a Tour of the Foodbank?

Yes. You can schedule a tour of the Foodbank or have a representative visit your facility for a speaking engagement to learn about the Foodbank and how your donations are put to work. Please give us a call at 757.596.7188. Tours are provided Monday-Thursday between 9am and 3pm; Fridays 9am to Noon.
